Za-Ramen, Takayama – ザ・らーめん匠, 高山

It was our first time in Takayama. We just got back from Hida Takayama Teddy Bear Eco Village and it was kind of late (for a small town), around 8pm. We dropped off our rented bicycles at our hostel then walked around looking for food and seems that most of the restaurants are closed.

Then we found this place called Za-Ramen near Takayama train station. As we were very hungry, we went in right away. We asked for the menu, they have both Japanese and English menu. We’ve heard about Takayama ramen so we ordered 1 set meal and 1 kara-ramen (spicy ramen).

The Takayama Ramen set meal comes with rice, gari(がり- pickled ginger), torikaraage (fried chicken) and i’m not sure what it was. Think it was some sort of tofu. The Takayama ramen’s soup is based on light soy sauce (not as thick and black as the Toyama black ramen)and comes with beef instead of chashu. For your information, the Hida region (where Takayama is located) is known for its high quality beef. This ramen is very very very delicious. We were smitten.

The spicy ramen was also delicious. Served with boiled eggs and chashu.

If you ever had the chance to visit Takayama, I’d suggest you pay this ramen-ya a visit
